Mower Repair & Cemetery Work

Day 2 on the farm is done. Yesterday was a “big project” day. Today was a “small projects” day.

When I was still lived at home, my sisters and I had to mow the entire yard with a 21″ push gas mower. It was a multiple-day event. We begged Dad to buy a riding mower. He said he would as soon as all of us moved away from home. He kept his word.

The last rider he bought was a Snapper 46″ about 10 years ago. I started using it in 2016 after he was in the nursing home. I have mowed weeds with that mower that should have put it in an early grave. It just keeps running. I did make a mistake a few years ago dropping off the edge of a concrete slab and really messed up the drive pulley. Ever since then, I would seem to chew up belts on a regular basis.

I think I’ve solved the problem as of today. I used a grinder on the pulley to take off all the sharp edges. I installed a new belt and mowed with it for over 30 minutes and the belt still looks new. I have a pair of tinted goggles that I wear because I tend to get into nasty stuff that is not good for my eyes.

The next project was a trip to the cemetery at the end of our road. Dad is there, all four of my grandparents are there, four great grandparents are there along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Someday we’ll be there as well.

There was a bush that was starting to take over the headstones of my grandparents and an aunt and uncle. I went down an did some trimming so there was room to be able to walk in front of their headstones. It was nice to be able to do some clean-up and spend a little time there.

I replaced our cave door about five years ago. It’s needing some love and attention that will be on the list of things to do tomorrow. Good day.
