Metal Recycling & Winter Prep

Day 3 on the farm complete. Just worked this morning but we got done what we were hoping for. Finished going through the rest of the metal and took another load to recycling. A lot of this stuff is from the 40’s and 50’s when my grandparents lived here so I used the phrase “I want to hold on to that for now” quite a bit. The only time I lost was over a pair of tongs that were about 18″ long and completely rusted together. There’s still a galvanized cattle tank, a bunch of barrels, my “keepers” and some black cattle tubs left, but considering the fact that in June, we couldn’t walk in the building any more for all the stuff, we’re pretty happy with what we got done. This building was called the “old garage” and served as a hog house from the 70’s through the 90’s. It’s not going to be long for this world as you can see the holes in the roofline. I figure there’s a 50-50 chance it might go down over the winter if there’s a stiff wind.

Anyway, we got the mowers prepped for winter and everything put away. 2020 has at least been a good year on the farm and we’re looking forward to being back in the spring.
