We’re back on the farm! Day 1 and Day 2 are in the books. It’s really the second day, but we’ve only really worked two half-days, but whatever.
The first two pics are a before and after of the red cedar tree that came down a couple of weeks ago. We’re sure the house is at least 110 years old and I counted well over 85 rings and figure this tree has been there most of that time. The top was severely damaged about four years ago and it was time for it to come down.
We asked the company to save the main trunk and were “lucky” that they saved some branches for us to clean up. It took 5 pickup loads to get it all out to the burn pile. My grandparents purchased the farm in 1939 so it’s been in the family for over 80 years. We did save some of the larger branches that we’ll saw up and give out to relatives. The weather cooperated with overcast skies in the mid 60’s.
Our weather luck ran out today. Temps dropped about 25 degrees and the wind was howling. We made some great headway in the old garage (Beck calls it the “metal shed”). We got a pickup load of metal out and to the recycling center. I think we’ve taken care of the last of the barbed wire. Beck is happy!
