And we’re back down at the farm! The goal of this trip is to gently take down the old garage. Beck calls it the “metal shed” because that’s where I’ve staged all the clean-up metal over the past 3-4 years. We spent the morning going through what was left in the building including my metal “keepers”. Beck was smart enough not to question my selections! We cleaned out the west grain room in the corn crib and got rid of some 25 year left-over oats to make room for my keepers. We cleaned out another pickup load of junk out of the old garage to get the insides completely clean. We then had to tackle a bunch of old well pipe each about 21 feet long that has been laying outside the old garage since last summer. Since 21 feet doesn’t go into an 8 foot truck bed, we had to make two cuts in each pipe to get it to fit in the back of the truck. I lost count of how many cuts I made before I burned out my $35 angle grinder. You know when you see smoke, you’re done grinding!
It was such a beautiful day, I thought I’d do a little lot mowing with Dad’s rotary mower. Discovered I must have broken off the shear pin on my last outing. I’m not sure when I did it, but It certainly wasn’t working. Called around Knoxville and didn’t have a lot of luck. Went to Indianola and talked to 5 people before finding a solution (hopefully). Will know more tomorrow if it works.
We will be doing tear-down prep work tomorrow and then waiting until Saturday for the crew to arrive including Jeremy, Katie, Logan and Clare. I’m hoping to set up a camera to take interval pics as we tear it apart. Stay tuned!
