Day 2. We’re done and still alive! It was another hot one. Our first job of the morning was getting the east corn crib door back on its track. It was easy getting it off because one of the rollers was broken. It took about an hour, two concrete blocks, a crow bar, and some miscellaneous pieces of wood. Beck was up on the ladder trying to get the rollers on the track. I was on the ground trying to lift and move the door at the same time. We finally got it. I started working on the west door replacing the bad board. It’s made from car siding with tongue and groove boards.
I attempted to use a Skill saw to cut the groove off the board. I was good for about 2 feet but since the board was almost 10 feet long, it looked like I had been drinking. Trip back to Knoxville for another board. Decided the groove would stay. The grand closing of both doors did not go as planned. The east door hangs quite a bit lower which caused about a 3 inch gap at the bottom. Still working on a permanent solution, but it looks good for now.
Beck took on cleaning out the west corn crib. There were some boards and a lot of rotten straw on the floor. She got a nice pile made. I got to show her how to use a pitch fork (3 tine – an oldie of my grandpa’s) and then she unloaded it off the truck. We finished the day with another trip to the landfill with some general trash.
