Back in Iowa and down on the farm! It’s been an interesting 24 hours. We purchased an apple tree at Earl May yesterday afternoon to plant at the farm in memory of Beck’s mom. I went to pick it up this morning and found out someone stole it from the store overnight! Luckily, they had another identical tree so was able to get that one.
We hauled a total of 5 pickup loads of branches out to the burn pile. Beck went above and beyond and cleaned up another tree so the piles we cleared this morning were back this afternoon. She thinks there’s another 2-3 loads to clean up tomorrow.
I spent some time again working on getting the tractor started. Hooked up jumper cables from Dad’s pickup to the tractor. Got on the tractor and smelled something burning. Looked to the right of the tractor and the starter was smoking. Got off the tractor, ripped off the jumper cables and blew on the starter to put the fire out. Adding a fire extinguisher to the shopping list… Called the IH dealership in Indianola and gave them a laundry list of things to work on. They thought they’d be over early next week to take it in for service. Glad I didn’t torch the tractor or the corn crib.
It’s always good to see cattle back in the pastures.
Enough for day 1.
