It’s a surprise two day farm trip for me! Beck and Tomo are taking care of things at home while I came down to do some mowing. We were literally rained out from mowing when we were down a couple of weeks ago.
I started by hooking up the battery on the riding mower. I think I got it to turn over 3 times before the battery was shot. Plugged in the charger and got it going. Mowed for about a half hour and was working on the lane out to the pasture when the mower died. It would start, but immediately die. I was already trying to figure out how to pull it back up to the garage when I just left it choked and it seemed to run. Took off immediately to the garage and made it. Pulled out the push mower and continued on the weeds at a much slower pace but expending way more of my energy.
Mom’s mower guy showed up to mow the formal “yard”. There are places that I like to see mowed that he doesn’t get because of the terrain or too close to the fences. Anyway, I told him what happened with the riding mower. He asked me if I’d checked the air filter. Well, nope. It was definitely dirty! That did the trick so I thought I was back in business. I was on my first pass down the fence line and then the belt blew. No spare so back to the push mower for the rest of the day. Did some clean-up trimming and finished up for the day.
I was taking a break on the deck when I looked up and saw a buzzard sitting on the peak of the house. Mom came out to see hime before he took off. I think I was too big of a target for him.
Kitten update – it looks like the two litters are now all in one place. Both of the mother’s bolted when I checked on the kittens. Couldn’t get a good count because they were in a big pile trying to keep warm.
Hope to work on the tractor mower tomorrow and mow some of the cattle lots.
Most of the pics are before and afters. Towards the end are just some shots in the orchard area, buzzard and kittens.
